Counseling Services

We offer counseling in English and Spanish primarily, as well as limited appointments in a variety of other languages. Please contact us if you are looking for services in a specific language. We also offer therapists from many different racial and ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+ orientations, immigration status, and other important identities.

Our fees are among the lowest in the county, and we offer an affordable sliding scale based on household income and number of dependents for those in financial need. SDSU students receive a discounted rate.

As a training facility, the CCCE is not able to provide emergency services or crisis intervention. Our staff is not able to provide medication, 24-hour phone access, or emergency appointments. However, we do provide referral services and collaborate with other community mental health resources to help you get the support you need.

Teletherapy

Due to safety concerns from the novel coronavirus, the CCCE is currently conducting all therapy sessions remotely (via telephone or video conference). We highly encourage that clients interested in our services be able to access the internet and download the Zoom online meeting platform, available here. To protect your privacy and confidentiality, we use an end-to-end encrypted version of Zoom that complies with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. Please note that you must reside in the state of California to receive teletherapy at the CCCE.

Individual Counseling

At CCCE, we put you, our clients, at the center of our work – recognizing that you are the expert in your own life. We provide respectful support as you deal with challenging times, troubled relationships, and life transitions – and help you explore options for positive change in your life.

Counseling sessions are scheduled weekly on the same day & time and continue until you and your therapist mutually determine that you no longer need mental health support.

We work with a wide range of concerns including anxiety and depression, stress, relationships, workplace problems, body image, insecurity and self-esteem, trauma, diversity and discrimination, and so much more.

If needed, we can also provide referrals to others agencies who may assist you with other social support services such as medical care, substance abuse treatment, housing, or immigration and legal assistance.

Couples Counseling

As graduate students and post-graduate interns in Marriage & Family Therapy, we are specifically trained to work with clients in the context of their relationships. Whether you are considering marriage, already in a committed relationship, planning a separation, or divorced and parenting jointly, we can work with you and your partner to improve communications, help resolve conflict, and address issues related to infidelity, sexuality, gender roles, multi-ethnic relationships, and other stressors.

We work with partners individually and jointly to help foster an environment where trust, mutual respect and open lines of communication can be regained.

Family Counseling

At times clients need professional help to improve relationships and communications with family members. Conflicts can often arise between parents and children or siblings; also the effects of divorce, unemployment, or stressors from work or school can all have negative effects on family life. Our Marriage & Family therapy graduate students and interns have specialized training to consider the whole family in context and will work collectively with you towards resolution.

Intergenerational conflict can sometimes arise due to issues of adjustment and acculturation – particularly where parents and children have different cultural values and viewpoints that may lead to stress and strain. Family therapy can help build bridges between family members so that closeness and understanding can be restored.

With large families, we sometimes work in therapy teams in which two co-therapists work with various family members individually and then together to maximize the appointment time.

Group Counseling

Group counseling has been shown to be effective in the treatment of a number of mental health issues in which clients gain insights and support through working with a group of their peers. Currently, CCCE offers one Spanish support group for Latina women. If you have a suggestion for a group you might find helpful, please use the Contact Us form to let us know.

Group counseling programs typically run 8 to 12 weeks and then restart. Group counseling is one of the most cost-effective therapy modalities that CCCE offers as weekly sessions are donation based, $5 to $$20 per session, depending on clients ability to donate. Groups facilitated by a licensed clinician are offered at a $15 rate per session.

If you are interested in any of our group counseling programs, please call us to register. Or if you have a suggestion for a group counseling program you’d like us to consider offering, please send us a note.
